Here is a part of what Matt had to say,

“Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.”

This message basically turned the blogging world upside down yesterday.

So what’s going on and what does this really mean for search engine optimization and internet marketing ? Well lets look specifically at the tone of the whole message. It seems Matt is talking about guest posting for seo purposes. Engaging in writing spammy, low quality articles or guest posting just to get a seo backlink is now dead and wasting your time. So in that respect, guest posting, guest blogging is essentially dead. Stop it now – your wasting your time.

Matt goes on to say,

“Guest blogging is done; it’s just gotten too spammy. In general I wouldn’t recommend accepting a guest blog post unless you are willing to vouch for someone personally or know them well. Likewise, I wouldn’t recommend relying on guest posting, guest blogging sites, or guest blogging SEO as a link building strategy.”

So if you are guest blogging for seo … the easy ride is over, period !

What about high quality guest posting ?

Matt says there are still many benefits to guest blogging besides backlinks for seo purposes.

Well it seems that Matt does differentiate between quality guest blogging and poor quality / spammy guest blogging. Now it’s important to understand this correctly. Even though there is a difference in the quality of the article, it seems that none of them will now offer any seo value for backlinks. So what then is the difference ? The difference according to Matt is the intent of the guest post and it’s other values.

Keep in mind there are 2 types of guest blogging:

1. The No Value Guest Blogging
The low quality, low value, frequently spun spammy kind of guest blogging that Matt
is talking about. These are people using guest posts to get backlinks for seo purposes.
They don’t really care about expanding thier audience in relevant websites. They are just looking
for a backlink to improve thier website page rank and seo scores.

2. The Real Value Guest Blogging.
The real kind of guest blogging, where the intention is to write real, quality content for relevant websites to build relationships. Bloggers looking to and expand thier fan base with real people and potential customers. Matt goes on to say, guest blogging for exposure, branding and reach are hereto stay. You just won’t get the seo value.

Value Of Guest Posting Summary:

– Guest posting to get backlinks for seo value is dead.
– Posting on tons of low quality guest posting websites won’t help your seo score.
– Don’t accept guest posts unless you can personaly vouch for that person.
– If you do allow guest posts, use no-follow links if the link is unnatural.
– Legitimate guest blogging for branding and exposure is still o.k.
– Do not add guest posts to spammy low quality atricle or guest post sites.
